Riddle / brain‑teaser “I am a place where people from all over the world come to start a new life, but I also have huge environmental problems – smog, waste, and overconsumption. I am called a ‘gateway’ to a continent. What am I?” Teacher elicits hypotheses (New York, Los Angeles, etc.). Then shows a satellite image of the USA at night and asks: “Why do you think the USA is still called a ‘gateway’? What about Kazakhstan – can it become a gateway for green ideas?” |
Students think, discuss in pairs (7 students → 3 pairs + 1 triad, rotate). Share guesses: “Maybe it’s an airport / a country / a dream.” Write 2–3 ideas in notebooks. One student from each pair voices hypothesis. |
Descriptors only, no points • Participates in brainstorming • Uses one or two topic‑related words (gateway, opportunity, pollution) • Shows curiosity and makes a logical guess |
Projector / smartboard; satellite image of USA at night; slide with riddle text; marker board for ideas. |
