| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Rapid Genre Challenge) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Today, we're diving into the world of novels. Let's start with a quick 3-minute challenge. I will show you three short book descriptions. Your task is to guess the literary genre for each. Ready? Let's go!" (Starts a 3-minute timer on the screen). 1. (Shows slide 1): "A story about a young wizard attending a school of magic, fighting dark forces with spells and magical creatures." 2. (Shows slide 2): "In a future society, a young woman must fight to the death in a televised game to survive and spark a rebellion." 3. (Shows slide 3): "A detailed story about a middle-class family in 19th century England, dealing with marriage, social status, and everyday struggles." After time is up: "Time's up! Let's check. 1? (Fantasy). 2? (Dystopian/Science Fiction). 3? (Realism). Excellent! The last one is our focus today: The Realist Novel. What words in description 3 made you think it's realistic?" (Elicits: detailed, everyday, 19th century, social status). |
Students listen to the instructions. They observe the descriptions on the board/screen. They think individually and then volunteer answers. They participate in the discussion about the clues for realism. |
