| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (mind map + discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Let's start with a mind map. Think of the word 'humour' – what associations do you have? Write down 3 words individually in your notebook. You have 1 minute." After 1 min: "Now, in pairs, share your associations. Each pair must pick the top 3 most interesting ideas." Then teacher asks: "Who would like to share one association? (picks 3 students) Why did you choose it? How do you think British humour differs from ours?" Teacher scaffolds and writes key vocabulary on board: irony, self-deprecation, wit, sarcasm (clarifying neutral vs. aggressive sarcasm). |
- Students individually brainstorm and write 3 associations. - In pairs (pair work – 5 pairs total), share and select top 3. - 3 students share and give short reasons; others listen and may add. - Students respond to teacher's questions, using prior knowledge. |
Descriptors (no points): • participates in pair discussion • offers at least one relevant association • listens to peers without interruption |
- whiteboard, markers - student notebooks |
