| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Storytelling with a trigger) |
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Let me tell you a short story about my weekend. Yesterday, I went to the cinema. I was so excited! I bought popcorn and a drink. The film was amazing! It was very funny, with lots of jokes and a happy ending. The main character was a superhero who fought aliens with lasers and spaceships. It was so scary in some parts, I jumped in my seat! After the film, I felt very sad and thoughtful. What a great comedy film!"
Pause for reaction. "Now, I need your detective skills. Did you notice anything strange or confusing in my story? Think about the words I used to describe the film. Discuss with your neighbor for 30 seconds." Teacher (after discussion): "Who can tell me what was wrong? Yes, I described one film with many conflicting genres: 'funny' (comedy), 'superhero...aliens' (sci-fi/action), 'scary' (horror), and 'sad and thoughtful' (drama). A film usually has one or two main genres. Today, we will learn to identify them clearly!" |
- Listen attentively to the teacher's story. - Identify the contradictory genre descriptions. - Discuss the trigger with a partner. - Volunteer answers: "You said it was a comedy but also scary and sad." | - Provide the story script with key contradictory adjectives highlighted (funny, scary, sad, superhero). - Use visual aids: icons for "funny", "scary", "action", "sad" next to the teacher. - Pair the SEN student with a supportive peer for discussion. - Ask a direct, scaffolded question: "Was the film funny or scary? Can it be both?" | Formative: Oral questioning. Descriptor: The student can identify at least one inconsistency in the story's genre description. |
- Teacher's script. - Whiteboard/Projector with icons. |
