| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Real-life news hook) |
Teacher: "Good morning! I want to show you a headline from a popular entertainment website." (Shows slide/board). Headline: "This new album is breaking records, but those old songs remain classics. This film is a must-see, but that sequel was disappointing." "Look at the words I've underlined. What do they have in common? In pairs, discuss: What is the writer trying to show by using these different words? Can you predict what our grammar focus might be today?" After 2 minutes: "So, what did you notice?" (Elicits: they point to things, some are near/far, singular/plural). "Exactly! These words are called demonstratives. Today, we'll master how to use them, especially when talking about the music and films we love." |
Students read the headline. In pairs (4 pairs, 1 student works with teacher if odd number), they discuss the function of 'this, that, these, those'. They predict the lesson topic. Volunteers share their ideas with the class. | Descriptors: Actively participates in pair discussion. Makes a logical prediction about the grammar topic. No points. |
Projector/Whiteboard with headline slide. Timer. |
