Teacher says: "Good morning, class! Today we talk about our wonderful families. Listen to my riddle: I am someone who tucks you in at night, reads you stories, and makes your favourite food. I am not your brother or sister. Who am I? (pauses). Think and whisper your guess to your partner." Possible answers: mother, mum, mom, father, dad, parent. Teacher writes on board: "Mum / Dad / Grandma / Grandpa". "Can you name one person in your family? What do you think about them?" Teacher elicits opinions: "My mum is … (kind, strong, beautiful)". Differentiation (universal): provide sentence starters on the board: "I think my ___ is ___ ." |
Class of 3: one pair (2 students) + 1 student works with teacher in a mini-group; rotate roles every activity. |
Descriptors (no points): • Participates in riddle guessing. • Expresses one opinion about a family member (orally). • Shows engagement and respect for others’ ideas. |
Board, markers, picture of a family (mum, dad, child). |
