| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method): Riddle / brain-teaser |
1. Greet the class and announce the lesson topic: "Culture spot: Traditional sports." 2. Present a riddle on the board (teacher reads aloud): "I am a game where riders pull and wrestle on the open steppe. I am played on horseback and show strength, speed and team skill. What am I?" 3. Ask: "What sport could this be? Make a guess — shout out one-word answers. Why do you think so?" 4. Prompt hypotheses: "Think about where the sport comes from, what equipment is used, and how teams are arranged." Allow 2–3 quick guesses, then reveal the expected answer (kokpar / buzkashi / goat-game family) and show a photo. 5. Instructions: "In one short sentence, write which of our vocabulary words you think fits this sport." (1 minute, individual - quick write) 6. Transition: "Today we're reviewing traditional sports and you'll show your understanding in reading, speaking, and a summative task." Teacher–class scripted prompts: - Teacher: "Listen to the riddle carefully. Can anyone suggest a word? Why?" - Teacher: "Write one sentence now: Which word from the unit fits? Ready? Go." |
- Students listen and shout suggestions (examples: "kokpar", "buzkashi", "polo", "wrestling"). - Each student writes one short sentence (e.g., "Kokpar is a horseback game for strong riders."). - Volunteers read their sentence aloud if time allows. |
Descriptors (no points): - Student responds with a plausible hypothesis (correct or partially correct). - Student writes a short sentence using at least one relevant vocabulary item. |
- Photo on slide of kokpar/buzkashi, short riddle text on board, whiteboard, pens. - Suggested AI support (listed in Resources): short video clip (30s) illustrating the sport. |
