| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Provocative question & voting) |
Teacher: "Good morning! I want you to think about this: If you could choose, which natural disaster would be the most terrifying to experience: a massive earthquake, a huge flood, or a powerful tornado? Don't say it out loud. I will show three corners of the room for each disaster. Go and stand in the corner that represents your choice. You have 10 seconds... Go!" (After voting) "Now, quickly talk to the others in your corner. Why did you choose that disaster? What do you know about it? You have 1 minute." Debrief: "Let's hear one reason from each corner." (Listens and links to the lesson). "Today, we will become disaster scientists. We will listen to stories and learn how to understand complex information, just like in the PISA tests. Our goal is to learn not just about disasters globally, but also how to be prepared and resilient in our own country." |
Students vote by moving to a corner of the room. They engage in brief pair discussions within their groups, sharing prior knowledge. Volunteers share one reason with the whole class. |
