Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to deduce the meaning of 3–4 new social phrases from a short dialogue (context).
  2. Students will ask and answer at least 2 simple questions about a partner’s hobbies/name/feelings using polite meeting language.
  3. Students will write 3–5 sentences expressing personal feelings about meeting a new friend (with support of a word bank).

Engagement (method: storytelling with a deliberate mistake)

Teacher: "Listen to my short story. When I finish, tell me ONE mistake you heard. Ready?"

Story: "Yesterday I met a new student in our class. I said: 'Hello! My name is Mrs. ____________________ . What is your name?' He answered: 'I am Alex.' Then I asked: 'How old are you?' He said: 'I am 12.' Then I asked: 'Where do you live?' He said: 'I live in Astana.' But I made a mistake — something that is NOT polite when you meet someone for the first time. What was it?"

Expected answer: "You asked too many personal questions too fast / you didn’t say 'Nice to meet you'."

Teacher: "Great! Today we’ll practise polite meeting and asking simple questions."

Dialogue script for teacher: "What was the mistake? (pause) Yes, I didn't say 'Nice to meet you' or 'Pleased to meet you'. And I asked too many questions without introducing myself properly."
  • Listen to the teacher’s story.
  • Identify the deliberate mistake (lack of polite greeting / too direct).
  • Volunteer the answer.
