6.3.6.1 express thoughts clearly and clearly at the level of a sentence and during a discussion during a pair, group and work with the whole class,
6.6.5.1 use questions that include different time forms on various familiar general and educational topics.
Lesson goal
  • Students will be able to ask and answer at least two questions in different time forms (past, present, future) when discussing books and reading experiences.
  • Students will be able to create and act out a pair dialogue recommending a book, using at least three functional phrases from the model and expressing ideas clearly at sentence level.
  • Students will be able to include in their dialogue a positive statement about Kazakhstan, its heroes, history or culture, showing independence of thought and patriotism.

  1. Greets students with a friendly smile: «Good morning, Grade 6! I’m so glad to see you. How are you today?»
  2. Takes out a cloth bag with a book hidden inside. Says: «I have a mystery here. I will give you three clues. Clue 1 — it is a book about a brave knight. Clue 2 — it has a magic sword and a stone. Clue 3 — the hero’s name starts with the letter K. What is it?»
  3. After students guess “King Arthur”, shows the book and asks: «What book did you read last weekend? Did you like it? What was it about?» (Collects 2–3 short answers.)
  4. States the lesson goal: «Today we are going to learn how to recommend a book to a friend, just like two friends, Ann and Bill, do in our textbook.»
  5. Sets a prediction task: «Before we read, look at the picture and the title of the dialogue. Predict: what did Bill read? Was his weekend good or bad? Why?» Writes students’ predictions on the board.
  • Answer the greeting: «Good morning! I’m fine, thank you.»
  • Listen to the clues and guess: «It’s King Arthur!»
  • Respond to the warm-up question: «I read a comic book», «I read about animals».
  • Make predictions: «Bill read a classic book», «His weekend was bad because he was ill.»
 Descriptors only — no points.
  • Actively participates in the guessing activity.
  • Answers the warm-up question with a word or a short sentence.
  • Makes a reasonable prediction about the dialogue.
  • Shows interest and readiness to work.
 Cloth bag / gift bag; book «The Story of King Arthur and his Knights»; PowerPoint slide with the book cover; whiteboard and markers.
