| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement ("What if...?") |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a 'What if...?' question. What if you suddenly got a very bad stomachache while on holiday in a country where you don't speak the language? How would you find help? Think for 30 seconds, then share your ideas with your neighbor." After pair discussion: "Who would like to share their partner's idea?" List 2-3 ideas on the board (e.g., "use a translation app", "go to a hotel reception", "look for a hospital sign"). Transition: "Great ideas! Today we will learn about health services in different parts of the world. This knowledge can help us show care and solidarity to anyone, anywhere, who might need help." |
Students think individually, then discuss the question in pairs. Volunteers share their partner's suggestions with the whole class. | Provide the "What if...?" question in written form on a card or screen. Allow the use of a simple bilingual picture dictionary (body parts, places). Pair SEN student with a supportive peer. | Descriptors: Student participates in the discussion, shares or listens to an idea. (No points) | Whiteboard/markers, printed question card for SEN, AI Tool: ChatGPT to generate a simple list of possible solutions in basic English for visual support on screen. |
