| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Storytelling with a mistake) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let me tell you about my weekend. I visited a wonderful new town. It was so peaceful and quiet because it has three huge airports right in the city center! The streets were clean, and the people were very unfriendly and helpful. I loved it!"
Instructions: "Listen carefully to my story. Work with your partner for 1 minute. Did you hear something strange or incorrect? Be ready to tell me." After pair work: Elicits answers. "Yes! Airports in the city center are usually noisy, not peaceful. And 'unfriendly and helpful' is a contradiction. Well spotted! Today we will learn to spot the author's feelings and opinions when we describe towns." |
Students listen attentively. In pairs (9 pairs total), they discuss the story to find the deliberate mistakes. They raise hands to share their findings: "Airports are loud," "Unfriendly and helpful don't go together." | Pre-assigned supportive pairs. Teacher provides the story in written form with key contradictory phrases highlighted (e.g., "quiet...airports", "unfriendly and helpful"). | Descriptors: The student actively listens and participates in pair discussion. The student can identify at least one illogical statement. No points. |
