| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Rapid Challenge: "Sports in 60 Seconds") |
"Good morning! Today we're talking about sports around the world. Your first challenge: In 60 seconds, write down as many sports as you can think of. Ready? Go!" (Start timer). After time: "Stop! Now, with a show of hands, who has more than 5 words? 8? Great! Let's quickly share. Aizhan, name one sport from your list." (Listens, writes "football", "basketball" on board). "Excellent. Now, look at the board. Which of these do you think is popular in our country, Kazakhstan? And which might be more popular overseas, like in the UK or USA?" | Students individually brainstorm and write down names of sports on a piece of paper. They then volunteer answers. They listen and respond to teacher's questions with short answers (e.g., "Football in Kazakhstan", "Basketball in USA"). | Provide a printed word bank with images (e.g., pictograms of football, running, etc.) for reference. Allow verbal response instead of written if needed. Pair with a supportive peer for sharing. | Descriptors: The student participates by listing at least 3 sports. The student attempts to categorize a sport as local or overseas. No points. | Timer (online or phone), whiteboard/markers, printed word bank with images for SEN. |
