5.3.2.1 ask simple questions to get information about a limited range of general topics;
5.4.4.1 read with some support a limited range of short fiction and non-fiction texts
Lesson goal
  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) and object pronouns (me, you, him, her, it, us, them) in short dialogues about jobs and correctly replace nouns with them in 4 out of 5 sentences.
  • Students will deduce the meaning of an unknown job-related word from a short text by using contextual clues (surrounding pronouns and verbs).
  • Students will ask and answer at least 3 simple questions about professions using subject and object pronouns in a paired interview.

Engagement (Riddle)
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a riddle. Listen carefully: 'I help sick animals. People bring their pets to see me. They trust me with them. Who am I?'" (Write the riddle on the board). "Discuss with your neighbor for 30 seconds. What is the job? What words helped you guess?"

After discussion: "Okay, let's hear your ideas. Yes, a veterinarian! Excellent. What words were clues? 'I help' – who is 'I'? 'People bring... to see me' – who is 'me'? 'They trust me' – who are 'they'? These little words – I, me, they – are very powerful. They are called pronouns. Today, we will learn to use them correctly when talking about jobs."
Students listen to the riddle. In pairs (6 pairs, 1 individual working with the teacher), they discuss possible answers and identify clue words. Volunteers share hypotheses: "A vet!" "Because of 'sick animals' and 'pets'." They point out the words 'I', 'me', 'they'. Observation of pair discussions. Listening for correct job identification and initial recognition of pronoun words. Whiteboard/marker. AI Tool: ChatGPT prompt used before the lesson to generate job-related riddles using subject/object pronouns (e.g., "I design buildings. Architects work with me. People live in them."). This ensures context-relevant, level-appropriate engagement.
