Teacher: "Good morning, class! I want to tell you a short story. Yesterday, I couldn't find my phone. I looked on the table – it wasn't there. I looked under the sofa – not there. Finally, I found it in my bag, between my books! These little words – on, under, in, between – are very powerful. They tell us exactly where things are. Today, we are going to become masters of these words: prepositions of location. Our mission is to use them to explore a fantasy world. First, look at this picture on the board (shows an image of a messy room with a cat in various spots). With your partner, predict: Where do you think the cat will go next? Use words like 'under', 'on top of', 'next to'." | Students observe the image. In pairs (6 pairs total), they discuss and make one prediction about the cat's next location using a preposition. They share their predictions with the class. Possible responses: "The cat will jump onto the chair." "It will hide behind the curtain." |
Descriptors: The student participates in the pair discussion and attempts to use a preposition of location in their prediction. No points. |
Interactive whiteboard or projector with an image of a messy room (cat on a wardrobe, under a bed, next to a plant). AI Tool: Canva or AI image generator (e.g., DALL-E, Midjourney) to create a custom, engaging "find the cat" image. This visual hook immediately captures attention and contextualizes prepositions. |
