| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Storytelling with a deliberate mistake) |
Teacher says: "Children, listen to my story about my friend’s family. There is one mistake in it. Can you find it?" Story: "My friend Asel has a wonderful family. She has a mother, a father, a brother and a sister. Her mother is a teacher. Her father is a doctor. Her brother is 7 years old. Her sister is 5 years old. Asel says: 'I think my family is boring because we never do anything fun together.'" Teacher asks: "What is the mistake? Why is it a mistake?" (Expected answer: The story says the family is wonderful but Asel says it is boring – contradiction in opinion.) Teacher scaffolds: "Remember, an opinion is what someone thinks or feels. Is 'boring' an opinion? Yes! But does it match 'wonderful'?" Teacher then says: "Now tell me your opinion: Is your family wonderful, fun, kind, or something else? Use 'I think my family is...'" |
