Teacher says: “Listen to my riddle: I have a golden ball in the sky and I make everything bright. I wake up the birds. Then I go away and everything becomes dark. Stars appear. What am I? (Day and Night) Good! Today we will talk about DAY and NIGHT in our capital Astana. Look at the picture (slide: Astana by day and night). What do you see? Say any word you know in English.” Possible student answers: “sun”, “building”, “light”, “big tower”. Teacher writes on board. Teacher: “Now, close your eyes. Imagine you are in Astana at night. What do you feel? (cold? magic?) Open your eyes. You will learn to describe day and night.” |
