| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement: provocative question + quick voting |
Teacher: “Good morning, Grade 10! Look at the board: ‘Einstein failed his first university entrance exam – was he really a genius?’ Let's vote quickly. Raise your hand if you think he was a genius anyway. Now raise your hand if you think success is just hard work.” Teacher counts votes, writes two numbers on the board. Debrief: “Interesting – most of you chose ‘genius’. But what if I tell you that Einstein himself said: ‘It's not that I'm so smart, it's that I stay with problems longer.’ Today we will write an article about Einstein and think about how independent thinking and national pride in our own scientists connect to this idea.” Transition: “In pairs you'll later share what you already know about him.” |
Students listen, vote by raising hands, some comment briefly. They turn to a neighbour for 30 seconds to share one fact about Einstein. |
Descriptors only – no points: • Student participates in voting and shares a fact. • Shows curiosity and initial engagement. |
Whiteboard/smartboard, markers. |
