Teacher: "Good morning! Today we explore the most complex object in the universe – the human brain. Let's start with a 1-minute mind map. On your mini-whiteboards, write the word 'BRAIN' in the center. Now, write down any words, feelings, or images that come to your mind. Ready? Go!" (Times 1 minute). "Time's up. Look at your maps. I see 'thought', 'memory', 'intelligence', 'computer', 'headache'. Very interesting. Now, in pairs, choose the three most interesting associations from your combined maps and be ready to tell us why you chose them." (Listens to 2-3 pairs). "Excellent. These ideas show our brain is connected to thinking, feeling, and even culture. Today, we'll move from these ideas to the physical structure that makes it all possible." |
Students quickly create individual mind maps on mini-whiteboards or paper. They then pair up, compare maps, select three associations, and briefly explain their choices to the class if called upon. Possible responses: "We chose 'memory' because we forget things," "We chose 'computer' because it processes information." | Provide a pre-drawn mind map template with the central word and a few starter branches (e.g., "function", "feeling", "part"). Allow verbal sharing of associations instead of written. | Descriptors only (no points): • The student contributes at least one relevant association to the mind map. • The student participates in the pair discussion, sharing or listening to chosen words. |
Mini-whiteboards/markers, paper, pens, timer. AI Tool: Mentimeter or Padlet for a live, collaborative digital mind map projected for the class. Helps visualize collective prior knowledge and engages all students, including SEN, by allowing anonymous or simple text input. |
