Engagement (Riddle)
Teacher: "Good morning! Let's start with a riddle. I am thinking of two things you can drink. One is white and comes from a cow. The other is yellow and comes from a fruit. The yellow drink is often more sour. What are they? And which one is more sour?"
Wait for hypotheses. "Yes, milk and lemonade! So, we said lemonade is 'more sour'. Today we will learn how to compare things using special forms of words like 'sour' – 'more sour'. We call these 'comparative adjectives'. Our topic is comparing food and drinks."
Students listen and think. They raise hands to guess: "Milk and juice?" "Lemonade?" They answer: "Lemonade is more sour." They repeat the term "comparative adjectives". Provide visual aids: pictures of milk and lemonade with labels. For a student with attention difficulties, the teacher can ask them directly: "[Name], which one looks more sour to you?" Descriptors: The student participates by offering a guess or repeating the key phrase "more sour".
No points.
Whiteboard/marker, pictures of milk and lemonade. AI Tool: DALL-E or Canva AI to generate clear, labeled images of the two drinks to support vocabulary.
