Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to correctly apply quantifiers (e.g., many, much, a few, a little) to countable and uncountable nouns in sentences related to festivals and cultural practices, with at least 80% accuracy in a controlled task.
  2. Students will demonstrate the ability to form and use comparative and superlative structures, including complex and participial adjectives, to describe and compare cultural traditions in written sentences, as evidenced by a tiered written task.
  3. Students will produce a short, coherent narrative about a past cultural experience using a specified range of past tenses (simple past, past perfect) and modal forms (including should/shouldn't have) to express criticism or regret, meeting at least three of the five target grammar criteria.

Lesson opening (5 min)
Engagement (Grammar Sprint Game)
Teacher: "Good morning! To warm up our brains, we're having a 3-minute Grammar Sprint. I will show you a series of sentences on the screen with one grammar mistake each. Your task is to identify and correct it. Ready? Let's start the timer!"

Script:
____________________. (Shows slide) "There are many informations about the festival." (Error: many + uncountable noun).
2. "The Chinese New Year celebration is more older than our local holiday." (Error: double comparative).
3. "I wish I have visited the carnival last year." (Error: past regret requires past perfect).
After timer: "Time's up! Let's check. For sentence ____________________, who has the correction?" (Listens, confirms). "Excellent. The goal today is to show your mastery of these grammar points in your independent work on culture and language."
Students work individually, writing corrections on mini-whiteboards or notebooks. They raise their boards/participate verbally when the teacher reviews answers.

Possible responses:
____________________. "There is much information / a lot of information..."
2. "...is older than..."
3. "...I had visited..."
Descriptors:
  • Student attempts to correct at least 2 of the 3 sentences.
  • Student participates in the review discussion.
(No points)
Projector/Screen, PowerPoint/Google Slides with 3 error sentences and a timer. Student mini-whiteboards & markers or notebooks.

AI Tools: ChatGPT used to generate diverse, context-specific error sentences based on the unit's vocabulary (festivals, traditions). This ensures the warm-up is precisely targeted.
