| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Mind map & discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Today's topic is about reporting what others said. Let's do a 1-minute mind map. Write the phrase 'He said...' in the center of your notebook and note down any words, phrases, or grammar rules you associate with it. Ready? Go!" (Monitors time). "Time's up. Now, turn to your shoulder partner. Share your three most interesting associations. I will ask three pairs to share one with the whole class."
Dialogue: "Pair 2, what did you discuss?" (Listens). "Excellent, 'that' as a connector. Pair 7, your turn?" (Listens). "Changing the verb tense, a crucial observation. Pair 15?" (Listens). "Pronouns like 'I' becoming 'he/she'. Perfect. These are all key elements of Indirect or Reported Speech, which is our focus today." |
Students individually create a mind map for 1 minute. They then discuss their top 3 associations with a partner (20 students = 10 pairs). Selected pairs share their ideas with the class. |
