Riddle / Brain-teaser: "Yesterday I helped a friend. I played, I talked, I walked. But wait – I also went, ate, and saw. What tense am I hiding?" Teacher writes on board: help – helped, go – went, eat – ate. Asks: "Which verbs change completely? Why do we need two groups?" Teacher elicits hypotheses (regular/irregular). |
Students listen, guess the tense (Past Simple). Volunteers share ideas: “Some verbs add -ed, some change.” They give own examples. | Visual cards: regular (play→played) vs irregular (go→went). Sentence starters on the board. |
Descriptors (no points): • participates in guessing • gives at least one example • shows awareness of two past forms |
