Teacher: "Good morning! I have a question for you. Imagine you could design a town. Would you make cars illegal in the center? Show me thumbs UP for YES, thumbs DOWN for NO. (Waits 10 seconds). Interesting! Now, talk to your partner for 1 minute: Why did you vote that way?" Teacher circulates, listens to conversations. After 1 minute: "Okay, let's hear a few ideas. Aruzhan, what did you and your partner say?" (Listens to 2-3 responses). "Great ideas. Today we are going to learn about a real town in the USA that has some very strange rules about transport. Let's see if it's similar to your ideas." |
Students vote with thumbs. They turn to a partner (pair work, 6 pairs + 1 trio) and discuss their opinion. Selected students share their or their partner's reasoning with the class. | For students with attention or language processing needs, the teacher provides the question in written form on a card or on the board.
