Engagement (What if...?)
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a question. What if our class had students from every country in the world? What would that be like? Think for 15 seconds." (Pause). "Now, share your ideas with your elbow partner for 1 minute."

Teacher circulates, listens, then asks 2-3 pairs: "What did you and your partner think?" (Writes key words from answers on board, e.g., "different languages", "new games", "interesting food").

Teacher links: "Great ideas! Today, we will 'meet' some of those students through reading. Our topic is 'Students around the world'. By the end of the lesson, you'll be able to find key information about them and introduce yourselves and others."
Students think individually about the "What if...?" question.

In pairs (18 students = 9 pairs), they discuss their ideas.

Selected students share their pair's thoughts with the whole class.
Descriptors (no points):
  • Actively participates in the pair discussion.
  • Shares an idea related to the topic (culture, language, daily life).
Whiteboard/markers, timer.
AI Tool Suggestion: An AI image generator (e.g., Midjourney, DALL-E) could be used beforehand to create a compelling visual of a diverse global classroom to project during the discussion, stimulating imagination and vocabulary.
