  • 6.3.7.1 use appropriate subject-specific vocabulary and syntax to talk about a limited range of general topics, and some curricular topics.
Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the writer's opinion in a short text about home remedies by underlining key phrases and stating if the attitude is positive, negative, or neutral.
  2. Students will be able to use at least 8 new vocabulary items related to home remedies (e.g., sore throat, honey, ginger, compress) in spoken sentences and a short written description.
  3. Students will collaboratively create and present a new, imaginative home remedy for a common ailment, demonstrating creativity and critical thinking.

Engagement (Storytelling with a deliberate mistake)		 Teacher: "Good morning, class! I want to tell you a short story. Yesterday, I had a terrible headache. So, I decided to use a home remedy. I took a spoonful of mustard and put it in my ear. My grandmother always said it helps! And you know what? I felt better almost immediately!"
(Pause for reaction)
"Now, I want you to think: Is my story completely believable? Discuss with your neighbor for 30 seconds: What seems strange or wrong here?" 		Students listen to the story. They discuss in pairs (17 students = 8 pairs + 1 trio). They identify the deliberate mistake (mustard in the ear is not a common or safe home remedy for a headache). They share their thoughts. Descriptors:
  • The student actively listens to the story.
  • The student participates in pair discussion.
  • The student attempts to identify the illogical element.
