| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...? question) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a 'What if...?' question. What if your favorite book or cartoon character moved to your school? What kind of problems or feelings might they have? For example, what if Harry Potter felt lonely? Or if SpongeBob SquarePants was worried about a test? Think for a moment." (Pauses). "Now, please share your ideas."
Script: "Aruzhan, what's your idea?" (Possible student response: "Maybe Elsa from Frozen would feel shy because her powers are different.") "Excellent! Different is okay. Anyone else? Danial?" (Possible student response: "Tom from Tom and Jerry might be angry because Jerry is in his class.") "Good example of a conflict. Let's hear one more. Aisha?" (Possible student response: "Winnie the Pooh might be happy because he loves honey and friends.") "Great! So characters can have different feelings: shy, angry, happy. Today we will be these characters and help each other." |
Students think individually and then volunteer answers. They listen to peers. | Provide a visual prompt on the board/screen with 3-4 character pictures and emotion word bank (happy, sad, angry, worried). Allow SEN students to point to a picture and an emotion word instead of full sentence. | Descriptors: The student participates by offering at least one idea about a character's possible problem or feeling. Note: No points. |
Interactive whiteboard or projector. Slide with "What if...?" question and images of popular characters (Harry Potter, SpongeBob, Elsa, etc.). Emotion word bank. AI Tool: DALL-E or Midjourney to generate unique, engaging character images for the prompt, increasing relatability and visual support. |
