| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement: Riddle |
Teacher: "Good morning, Grade 5! Today we have an important lesson—our summative assessment for Term 1. But let's start with a warm-up. I have a riddle for you. Listen carefully: 'I have no mouth, but I can speak. I have no legs, but I can run. I have no hands, but I can clean the Earth. What am I?' Think for 20 seconds. Discuss with your partner. What could it be?" Teacher: (after hypotheses) "Interesting ideas! Actually, it is a broom. Why? Because a broom has no mouth, no legs, no hands, but it 'runs' across the ground and 'speaks' by cleaning. Now, why are we starting with a broom? Because our unit 'Living Things' is about our environment. Today we will think about how we can keep our world clean—this is the value of Taza Qazaqstan (Clean Kazakhstan)." Teacher: "Now we will do our assessment tasks. You will show your skills in listening, reading, and writing. Do your best!" |
Students listen to the riddle, think individually, then pair up to share hypotheses. They answer: "a broom", "a street cleaner", "a river", etc. They listen to the explanation and connect to the topic of cleanliness. | Descriptors (no points):
