| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement Storytelling with a deliberate mistake |
Story: “Today I met a new friend. Her name is Aya. She is 10 years old. She said: ‘I am from France, I live in Astana.’ Wait… is that true? Can someone live in France and in Astana? What is wrong?” Teacher pauses, invites students to spot the mistake. Then shows flashcard with map of Kazakhstan and France. “Aya cannot be from France and live in Astana at the same time. Let’s help Aya fix her sentence.” Prompt: “What should Aya say? (I am from Kazakhstan. I live in Astana.)” Value connection: “Being diligent means we check facts and finish our work correctly.” |
Students listen, raise hands, say “mistake!”. Possible answers: “France is a country, Astana is in Kazakhstan.” “She can’t be from two countries.” Then chorally repeat correct sentence: “I am from Kazakhstan. I live in Astana.” Each student turns to partner and says one true sentence about their own city/country. |
Descriptors (no points): • Spots the geographical mistake. • Offers a logical correction. • Repeats a true sentence with partner. |
Flashcards: map of Kazakhstan & France, PB p.9, globe or large map. |
