| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Rapid Vocabulary Challenge) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Let's start with a quick challenge. I will show you an image on the screen for 60 seconds. It's a person making a specific gesture. Your task is to write down as many English words for body parts and gestures you see as you can. Ready? Timer starts now!" (Displays an image of a person with crossed arms, a tilted head, and a raised eyebrow). After 60 sec: "Time's up! Now, in pairs, compare your lists. Who has the most words? Let's hear some examples."
Script: "So, what did you see? (Listens to answers: arms, head, eyebrow, etc.). Excellent. 'Crossed arms', 'tilted head' – these are not just body parts, they are gestures that communicate meaning. Today, we'll expand this vocabulary and explore how such non-verbal cues contribute to a powerful quality: charisma." |
Students observe the image silently and individually write down vocabulary on a notepad. Then, they quickly compare lists with a partner, adding missing words. Volunteers share words with the class. |
Descriptors:
|
Projector/Screen, Timer (online or phone), Prepared image of a person with clear gestures (or a slide from English File p.62), Student notepads.
AI Tool Suggestion: An AI image generator (e.g., DALL-E, Midjourney) can be used to create custom, culturally diverse images depicting specific gestures for the opening challenge, making the engagement more dynamic and tailored. |
