Teacher: "Good morning! I want to show you a headline from last week: 'Scientists Develop a Prototype Drone That Can Plant 100 Trees in an Hour.' Look at this image. Based on this headline and picture, I want you to think and then tell your partner: What is one major PROBLEM this innovation could solve? And what is one new PROBLEM it might create? You have 2 minutes to discuss in pairs."
After pair discussion, the teacher asks 2-3 pairs to share their predictions. "Interesting ideas! Today, we will build the language toolkit you need to discuss, hypothesize, and evaluate such STEM innovations. The key words we learn will help you sound like real innovators." |
Students look at the projected headline and image. In pre-assigned pairs (6 pairs total), they discuss the questions. They make predictions about environmental impact and potential issues like cost or safety. They listen to other pairs' ideas.
Possible student responses: "It solves deforestation." / "It might create problems for birds or be too expensive." |
