Teacher script: “Good morning! Today we check our progress on ‘Making connections in biology’. Let me start with a short story. ‘Last week I met a biologist who studies how the human brain works. She told me: “When we work hard physically, our brain releases a chemical called cortisol that makes us feel happy and focused.”’ Wait … is that true? What’s the mistake? (cortisol is a stress hormone, not a ‘happy’ chemical – dopamine/serotonin). Discuss with your neighbour for 30 seconds, then raise your hand.” Teacher listens to 2–3 answers, corrects misconception, links to value: “Understanding honest labour – even hard physical work has dignity, but we need accurate science.” |
Students listen, identify the mistake (cortisol ≠ happiness). In pairs (9 pairs) discuss and then volunteer corrections. | Descriptors (no points): • spots the biological error • offers a brief correction • engages in pair talk (no points) |
