Engagement (method: meme discussion)
Teacher: "Good morning! Let's start with this image." (Projects a meme showing a person with a stack of books, caption: "My brain after reading non-fiction vs. fiction." The non-fiction side is labeled "FACTS. LOGIC. KNOWLEDGE."). "Look at this meme. Why do you think this is about us today? What is the main difference it shows?"

Possible prompts: "What kind of books give us 'FACTS'? Have you ever read a book to learn something new, not just for a story?"

Teacher: "Exactly! Today, we are focusing on non-fiction – books about real people, real places, real events. Our goal is to become skilled fact-finders and descriptive writers."
Students observe the meme. They discuss in pairs or as a whole class.

Possible responses: "It's about learning real things." "Non-fiction is about true facts, fiction is stories." "We are going to read about real stuff today."

Students listen to the lesson introduction and connect the meme to the topic.
Descriptors:
  • Student participates in the discussion, offering an opinion on the meme's meaning.
  • Student makes a connection between the image and the concept of non-fiction reading.
No points.
Projector/Screen.
Meme image (prepared slide).
AI Tool Suggestion: An image generator (e.g., DALL-E, Midjourney) to create a custom, engaging meme on the topic of reading non-fiction to instantly capture student interest and personalize the hook.
