| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Meme analysis) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class! Let's start with a smile. Look at this image on the board." (Displays a meme: A cartoon student frantically running to school with the caption: "I woke up early TO catch the bus, but I forgot my homework IN ORDER TO have a reason not to come!"). "Why is this funny? And more importantly, why is this about us? Let's discuss. What is the purpose of the student's actions in this meme?"
Script: T: "What did the student want to achieve by waking up early?" Ss (expected): "To catch the bus." T: "Exactly. And what word introduces that purpose? ... 'To'. And the second part? 'In order to'. These are our magic tools today: clauses of purpose. They explain WHY we do things. Just like rules exist FOR A PURPOSE – to keep order." |
Students observe the meme, laugh, and engage in discussion. They identify the phrases expressing purpose ('to catch the bus', 'in order to have a reason'). They connect the idea of purpose to their own lives (e.g., "I study to get good grades"). | Provide a printed version of the meme with the key purpose phrases highlighted. Pre-teach vocabulary: 'purpose', 'achieve'. Allow a peer to re-explain the task in simple terms. | Descriptors only (no points):
