| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...? question) |
Teacher: "Good morning, class. Today we're exploring a challenging but vital topic. I want to start with a 'What if...?' question. What if you had the power to send help to a community trapped in a war zone, but you could only send one type of aid—medical supplies, food, or psychological support for children? Which would you choose and why? Turn to your shoulder partner and discuss for 90 seconds. Be ready to share your partner's choice and reasoning."
After discussion: "Okay, let's hear some ideas. Aruzhan, what did your partner say?... Interesting. Did anyone's partner have a completely different priority? Danial?" Possible Student Responses: "My partner said food because you can't help anyone if they're starving." / "We chose medical supplies because injured people can't wait." / "We thought helping children's mental health is most important for the future." Teacher: "Thank you. These are all valid, compassionate perspectives. This dilemma is exactly what real charities face daily. Today, we'll learn about organizations that navigate these impossible choices in conflict areas." |
Students discuss the "What if...?" question in pairs, actively listening to their partner's viewpoint. Volunteers share their partner's choice and reasoning with the class. | Formative: Observation of pair discussions. Listening for clarity and respect in how students report their partner's view. | Timer. Whiteboard/Flipchart to note down the three aid types and student reasoning. |
