Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today, I want to tell you a short story. Imagine you are a famous artist in the year 1200. A king asks you to paint his magnificent castle. You work very hard. In your painting, the king in the foreground is the same size as the tiny horse in the background, and the road to the castle is as wide at the end as it is at the beginning. The king looks at it and says, 'Perfect! It looks exactly like real life!'"
Teacher pauses. "Now, I want you to think: Is my story completely correct? What might be wrong with the king's statement? Discuss with your neighbor for 30 seconds." Teacher listens to a few ideas, then reveals: "The 'trigger' is that the king is wrong. Before artists discovered perspective, paintings did look flat and unrealistic, just like my story described. Today, we'll learn the secret that made art look real!" |
Students listen to the story.
Students discuss in pairs, identifying the deliberate mistake (objects don't get smaller, lack of depth/distance). Students volunteer answers: "The horse far away should be smaller," "The road should get narrower." |
