2. SMART goal 2 (R1): By the end of the lesson, all students will be able to identify the main points (who, where, nationality) from a short text about two fictional characters, using a graphic organiser, achieving at least 4/6 correct details.
3. SMART goal 3 (W3): By the end of the lesson, all students will write a 4‑sentence factual description of a country and nationality (with support: sentence starters, word bank) and meet the success criteria (content, spelling, clarity).

1-minute mind map: “On your A4 paper, write ‘COUNTRIES & NATIONALITIES’ in the middle. In 1 minute, add as many words as you can – countries, nationalities, flags, languages. Go!” (timer on screen).

After 1 min: “Now share with your partner (pair). Pick 3 interesting associations from your mind map and be ready to explain why you chose them.”

Teacher walks around, elicits 3–4 responses: “What did you write? Why?” (e.g., “Japan – sushi – Japanese – polite”).
