Lesson goal
  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify all 26 letters of the English alphabet in random order and name at least 20 of them correctly.
  • Students will be able to sing the complete alphabet song with correct pronunciation and rhythm, in a group and individually with support.
  • Students will be able to match at least 10 uppercase letters with their lowercase counterparts and use letters to spell simple 3-letter words (e.g., cat, dog, sun).

Engagement (method: riddle + brain-teaser)		 Teacher says: “Good morning, boys and girls! I am so happy to see you! Let’s start with a little mystery. Listen carefully: “I have 26 children, but none of them can talk. When you put them in the right order, they help you read and walk. What am I?””

Teacher pause for thinking.
“Yes, it’s the ALPHABET! But wait – here is a brain-teaser. I will show you a very strange alphabet chart (Teacher shows a chart with letters А, B, C, D... but some letters are missing: no G, no M, no Z). Look at the chart – something is wrong. What do you notice? Let’s find the missing letters!”

Teacher writes on board: “The missing letters are …?”
  • Invites 2-3 hypotheses: “What letters are missing?”
  • Student answers: “G!” “M!” “Z!”
  • Teacher corrects/clarifies: “Yes, you are right! G, M, and Z are missing. Great thinking! Today we will sing the alphabet and become alphabet stars!”
  • Listen to the riddle and think.
  • Raise hands and guess: “Alphabet!”, “Letters!”.
  • Look at the incomplete chart, compare with known alphabet.
  • Call out missing letters: “G, M, Z”.
  • Say “Hello” to the alphabet song idea.
  • Use a large, colorful alphabet chart with clear fonts.
  • Missing letters marked with yellow sticky notes to help SEN students focus.
  • Allow non-verbal response (pointing to the letter).
  • Give sentence starters: “I think the missing letter is …”
 Descriptors (no points):
  • Student participates in guessing game.
  • Student names at least one letter.
  • Student notices a difference in the chart.
