Lesson goal
  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to formulate at least 5 different subject/object questions without auxiliary verbs (e.g., Who wrote this book? What happened next?) based on a listening text and quiz material.
  • Students, working in teams, will collaboratively create and present a 5-question quiz round, organizing information clearly and using appropriate linking words (e.g., first, however, in conclusion) in their written instructions.
  • Students will demonstrate understanding of the main arguments and details in an extended listening passage about a cultural quiz show and actively contribute to team discussions using both formal (presenting) and informal (brainstorming) registers.

Engagement (Real-life case hook)		 Teacher: "Good morning! Imagine you are a producer for a popular TV show like 'Jeopardy!' or 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'. Your task is to create the most engaging quiz round about world cultures to promote global understanding. What ONE topic would you choose for your round? Think for 30 seconds." (Pause). "Now, turn to your neighbor and share your topic and predict: Will a quiz make people feel more united or more divided? Why?" Listen to 2-3 predictions. Students think individually about a quiz topic (e.g., "World Festivals", "Famous Landmarks"). They discuss their predictions with a partner, giving reasons (e.g., "More united because we learn fun facts about each other"). Descriptors:
  • Generates a relevant quiz topic idea.
  • Makes a logical prediction (unite/divide) with a simple justification.
  • Actively listens to a partner's idea.
