| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Real-life hook & prediction) |
Teacher: "Good morning! I want to show you a short news headline. (Shows slide) 'Local Teen Wins International Coding Competition Despite No Formal Training.' What do you think this story is about? Turn to your neighbor and predict: What challenges do you think this teen faced? What helped them succeed? You have 2 minutes."
After pair discussion, teacher asks 2-3 pairs to share predictions. Teacher then connects to the lesson: "Today, we'll read a story about talent and perseverance. We'll work on understanding tricky words from context and sharing our own stories. Your goal is to become more flexible and precise in your English." |
Students discuss the headline in pairs (6 pairs, 1 student works with teacher if odd number). They make predictions about the story's content and challenges.
Selected students share their predictions with the class. |

AI Tool Suggestion: Use a tool like Canva's AI text-to-image or Bing Image Creator to generate a visual of a teenager receiving an award to make the hook more engaging. |
