"Good morning class! Today we're exploring how small words can completely change meaning. I want to share something important: Yesterday, I looked a charity organization that helps people in conflict zones. Wait... does that sound right to you? What's wrong with my sentence?" After student responses: "Exactly! I should have said 'looked INTO a charity organization.' This little word 'into' completely changes the meaning. Today we'll discover how these phrasal verbs with 'look' can help us better understand and discuss charities and conflict situations." |
Students identify the error in teacher's sentence. They suggest corrections and discuss why the original sentence doesn't make sense. Students share initial thoughts about phrasal verbs they already know with "look." | Provide sentence with error written on card with bolded incorrect part. Offer choice of 3 corrections. Use gesture (looking through magnifying glass) to illustrate "look into." Partner with peer for think-pair-share. | Observation: Can students identify the grammatical error? Oral response: Do they provide logical corrections? |
