| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement Method: provocative question + quick vote |
Teacher: “Look at this photo: a park in Astana after a festival — litter everywhere. Quick vote: How often do people in our city litter public places? (show three hand signals: 1 – rarely, 2 – sometimes, 3 – often).” Collect votes, ask 2–3 students to comment. Then say: “Now imagine you read in the newspaper: ‘It is believed that volunteers cleaned 2 tons of waste in one day.’ Today we learn this passive structure: the passive with say, know, believe. It helps us talk about what people think or report without naming the source.” Differentiation: provide sentence stem on board: “It is ______ that …” for struggling learners. |
|
Descriptors only (no points): • participates in vote and gives a brief opinion. • repeats target structure. |
