|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beginning of the lesson (5 min) Starter (Storytelling with a trigger) |
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! I want to tell you a short story about my weekend. Yesterday at 3 PM, I was sitting in a cafe. The sun was shining, people were laughing. Suddenly, the ground started to shake! It was an earthquake! I was very scared. People in the cafe were running to the exit. I was running too. But here's the thing: I was drinking my coffee and I didn't spill a single drop while I was running! Can you find something strange or unlikely in my story?"
Facilitates discussion, listens to guesses. Teacher: "Exactly! It's very hard to run during an earthquake without spilling your drink. So, my sentence 'I was drinking my coffee and I didn't spill a single drop while I was running' might be an exaggeration or a mistake in logic. Today, we will talk about actions happening at a specific moment during dramatic events like natural disasters. We'll learn to describe what was or wasn't happening using a specific tense." |
Students listen to the story. They think individually, then discuss with a partner. They identify the inconsistency (running with a full cup without spilling is improbable). Volunteers share their ideas with the class. | Descriptors (no score): • The learner actively listens to the story. • The learner participates in pair discussion. • The learner attempts to identify the logical inconsistency. |
