| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (method: provocative question + quick vote) |
Teacher: “Good morning, everyone! Let’s start with a question: ‘What is the most unhealthy habit you can think of? And why do people still do it?’ I want everyone to stand up. On my count, go to the left side of the room if you think it’s ‘eating junk food’, to the right if you think it’s ‘not exercising’, and stay in the middle if you think it’s ‘staying up late’. Ready? 3, 2, 1 — move!” After voting, ask 2-3 students why they chose that side. Brief debrief: “Interesting! All these habits affect our health. Today we’ll talk about healthy and unhealthy habits using modal verbs like must, should, shouldn’t.” |
- Students stand and move to one of three zones. - Some students share reasons (e.g., “I think junk food is unhealthy because it has no nutrients”). - Others listen and nod or ask quick follow-ups. |
Descriptors: • Participates in voting (movement). • Gives a brief reason (speaking). • Listens to peers. No points. |
- Open space for movement. - Optional: slide with three zones (left/right/middle). - AI tool: ChatGPT to generate 3 provocative habit examples for voting. |
