Teacher: "Good morning, class! Today, we are all going to become authors. Let's start with a question: What if you could write a novel about absolutely anything? What would it be about? Think for 30 seconds." (Pause). "Now, turn to your shoulder partner and share your idea in one sentence. You have 1 minute."
Circulates, listens to ideas, and prompts: "A novel about a secret island? A robot with feelings? Great!" After 1 min: "Who would like to share their or their partner's fantastic idea?" Listens to 2-3 responses and links to the lesson: "These are brilliant starting points for our project today: creating a poster for your novel." |
Students think individually about the "What if..." question. They then pair up (15 students = 7 pairs + 1 trio) and share their novel ideas. Volunteers share ideas with the whole class.
