Engagement: Meme & prediction

Teacher: "Good morning, class! Look at the screen. I have a funny meme for you. (Show meme: two best friends – one is a cat, one is a dog – with the caption 'Best friends forever… even if you steal my food!')"

Teacher: "What do you think this meme is about? Why is it about us today? (Let students share.) Yes, it’s about friendship, about best friends. Today we are going to write an email about our best friend."

Teacher: "First, let’s make a prediction. Look at the title of the lesson: 'Writing: An email about your best friend'. What do you think you will learn? What questions do you have? (Write 1-2 ideas on the board.)"

Teacher: "Now, I will play a short audio clip (from the textbook, Ex.1) – just the first two lines. Listen and guess: Who is writing? To whom? What is the email about?"

Teacher: "Great! Let’s check your predictions after we read."

  • Look at the meme, smile, think.
  • Volunteer 2-3 students share ideas: "It’s about friends." / "We will write an email."
  • Make predictions about the lesson content.
  • Listen to the audio clip and make basic inferences: "Sezim is writing to Anna about her best friend Sofia."
  • Meme is visual and funny – reduces anxiety.
  • Audio clip is short and supported by the printed text (SEN students can follow along in the book).
  • Teacher uses simple, clear instructions and repeats key words.
