| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (Mind Map & Discussion) |
Teacher: "Good morning! Today's magic words are 'Seasons' and 'Sports'. I want you to close your eyes for 30 seconds and think of ANY words that pop into your head when you hear these words. Ready? Go." (Waits). "Now, open your eyes. Let's build a mind map on the board together. Who wants to share the first word?" (Writes all associations on the board in a spider diagram). "Great! Now, let's look at our map. I see 'winter', 'football', 'hot', 'skiing'. I pick these three: 'December', 'team', and 'competition'. Can anyone tell me how these three might be connected? For example, in which season do we often have team competitions?" (Guides discussion to link months, seasons, and sports). | Students think individually. Volunteers share their word associations (e.g., summer, swim, January, snow, basketball, championship). Students participate in the discussion, trying to find connections between the selected words and the broader topic. |
Descriptors: The student participates in the brainstorming by offering at least one association. The student attempts to contribute to the discussion by answering or asking a question related to the teacher's prompt. No points. |
Whiteboard/Interactive board, markers. AI Tool: Miro or MindMeister (displayed on board). The teacher can use it to quickly create a digital, colorful mind map as students shout out words, making the engagement visual and dynamic. |
