T: "Good morning, class! Our unit is 'Fantasy World'. I want you to close your eyes for 30 seconds and think: What comes to your mind when you hear 'mythical creatures'? (Waits) Now, open your eyes. Let's create a mind map on the board. Who can give me one word or a short phrase?" Script: "Excellent! Dragon... Unicorn... Magical powers... Scary... Beautiful. (Writes on board) Now, look at our map. Let's discuss three: 'Magical powers', 'Scary', and 'Beautiful'. Why do you think people imagine creatures with magical powers? Is being 'scary' always bad for a creature? Can a creature be both beautiful and dangerous? Share your thoughts with your desk partner for 1 minute." |
Students think individually, then volunteer words/phrases for the class mind map. They then discuss the three selected concepts with a partner (17 students = 8 pairs + 1 trio). They share ideas briefly with the class. |
