| Lesson opening (5 min) Engagement (What if...?) |
Teacher: "Good morning! To start our revision, let's think about a 'What if...?' scenario. What if you had the power to change one major decision you made last year? How would you explain that change? Think about the language of possibility and regret we've studied. Please, share your initial thoughts with your elbow partner." Circulates, listens to conversations, prompts: "What modal verb would you use to talk about a past possibility? (might have) What about a past obligation you didn't fulfill? (should have / was supposed to)". After 2 minutes, asks 2-3 pairs to share their most interesting "What if..." scenario with the class. |
Students think individually, then discuss the prompt with a partner. They formulate sentences using past modals (e.g., "I might have chosen a different elective," "I should have studied more"). Volunteers share their ideas with the whole class. | Descriptors (no points): • The student participates in the pair discussion. • The student attempts to use a past modal or related structure in their response. • The student listens actively to their partner's ideas. |
Whiteboard/Projector with the prompt: "What if you could change one past decision?" AI Tool Suggestion: ChatGPT can be used by the teacher before class to generate a list of diverse and thought-provoking "What if..." scenarios related to life choices, providing a bank of prompts to engage different students. |
