Lesson goal
  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a short report (120–150 words) on a school event using at least 5 different connectors (e.g., however, therefore, in addition, consequently, moreover).
  2. Students will be able to punctuate their report accurately, including commas, full stops, and capital letters, with no more than 3 punctuation errors per text.
  3. Students will demonstrate collaboration and respect by peer-editing a partner’s report using a checklist and providing constructive feedback.

Teacher says: "Listen to a short story about a school Unity Day. I will make TWO deliberate mistakes – one grammar/punctuation mistake and one factual/logical mistake. Raise your hand when you spot one."

Story: "Last week our school held a Unity Day celebration. Students from three different grades prepared performances. Firstly the choir sang a song about friendship. However they forgot the lyrics. In addition the dance group performed a traditional dance. Consequently everyone felt happy. The event ended with a group photo. It was a huge success. (pause) Actually, wait – I said 'three different grades' but our school only has two grades. And I forgot a comma after 'However'. Can you find both mistakes?"

After students respond, confirm the mistakes: (1) factual – school has only grades 10-11, not three; (2) punctuation – missing comma after 'However'.
